Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, the Bay Area’s leading provider of real estate services, announced today that Shelly Chou, an agent in the company’s Cupertino office in Silicon Valley, has won the company’s national Rookie of the Year Award for her first-year sales success.

Chou outpaced thousands of new agents for Coldwell Banker throughout North America to receive the award, one of the highest honors for the nation’s largest real estate brokerage company.

In Chou’s first year in business, she was involved in 14 residential sales in Silicon Valley area totaling nearly $13 million in sales volume.

“Shelly works really hard and is very passionate about real estate,” said Nina Yamaguchi, manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Cupertino office. “She’s fast, efficient, and has a great understanding of investments, so she’s really good about explaining the benefits of property ownership to clients.”

Yamaguchi added that Chou is extremely respectful of other agents and has quickly earned the respect of her colleagues in return.

“Other agents like working with her, because they value her skills, hard work and attention to detail,” she said. “They know she can get the job done quickly and properly.  We couldn’t be more proud of Shelly for this well-deserved recognition.”

Chou said she was “very surprised” and excited when she heard the news. “I wasn’t expecting it, but was so happy when I found out,” she said. “And my family was very happy and proud of me as well.”

Born and raised in Taiwan, Chou graduated from Lintong University in Taichung. She moved to the U.S. in 1987 with her husband and began working in corporate accounting and sales. Chou later launched her own computer company and ran it successfully for a number of years before deciding to enter the real estate industry.

“Ironically, she decided to get into real estate because she loves sales and thought it would give her more time to spend with her family,” Yamaguchi said. “But given how successful and incredibly busy she’s been in her first year, she’s probably got less free time now than she has ever had!”
