If you’re looking for the center of glitz, glamour and big bucks, look no further than California. Oh yes, the Golden State is living up to its name according to the new Coldwell Banker Real Estate Home Listing Report, with 7 of the nation’s top 10 most expensive markets landing squarely in California territory.

Are you ready to hear who nailed the number one spot? Well that went to Malibu, which of course, doesn’t come as a shock. For years, the rich and famous have flocked to Malibu for both the beauty and the low-key lifestyle—and in return, they’ve bought up beach homes and cliffside compounds that design lovers could fawn over for decades. You know the phrase “this is the life”? Yeah, it probably originated at one of these homes.

Not to be outdone is another coastal paradise in the Southern region—Newport Beach—which comes in at number two on the list. The other five mega-affluent markets all fall in lovely Northern California, with the Bay Area’s Saratoga in the number three slot. You’re itching to know the details on all of these markets, aren’t you (that is purely rhetorical—of course you are!), so we won’t dilly dally with the small talk any longer. Behold the seven markets that keep the Gold in Golden State (and make us a little proud, too):

Market | Ranking | Average List Price

Malibu | 1 | $2,155,900
Newport Beach | 2 | $1,773,824
Saratoga | 3 | $1,684,261
Los Gatos | 4 | $1,360,497
San Francisco | 5 | $1,309,497
Cupertino | 7 | $1,292,400
Redwood City | 10 | $1,203,357

If you’re wondering how these rankings came to be, here’s the short and sweet version (in actuality, there were a lot of numbers involved, computer programs and very smart people examining a whole lot of data): Coldwell Banker analyzed the average listing prices of four-bedroom, two-bathroom properties on coldwellbanker.com between January 2013 and June 2013 for 52,257 listings in 1,997 markets. When all was said and done, the 2013 Home Listing Report was released!
