The start of November signifies the unofficial beginning of holiday gift-buying season. Just in time for all those presents you need to buy for friends, colleagues and family, we present our second Made in California feature—with a holiday twist.

Buying local remains an increasingly popular idea, and over the holidays, it may be even more difficult to find Golden State goods. According to an L.A. Times article, “Industry experts say that 85% of the toys sold in America are made in China and more than 95% of the clothes are produced overseas. Most consumer electronics, too, are assembled beyond U.S. borders.”

But how do you make your holiday gifting a local affair this year? Finding products made in California can be tricky, but not impossible. Here are a few of our faves:

1. Noir Furniture

Manufactured in Gardena, Noir Furniture  ranges “from dark and gothic looking to light and beachy.” Their furniture designs are also featured on the TV show ‘True Blood.” A list of retailers selling Noir Furniture can be found here.

Jewelry…With a Twist

Looking for a unique CA-made holiday gift? Love Heals Jewelry is a family-owned company based out of Ojai that creates jewelry using “high-quality metals, silks, artifact replicas, and gemstones. Not only that, they plant 10 trees for each piece you buy, so you won’t feel too guilty if you want a few,” said USA Lovelist. Love Heals Jewelry sells everywhere from small boutiques to Neiman Marcus. You can find a complete list of retailers here.

Uncommonly Good

For the eco-friendly folks in your life, try these fun coasters made from recycled tires. Made in L.A. and exclusive to Uncommon Goods, this is just one of thousands of made-in-America items from the website catering to unique gifts (Tip: use the search term “California” for items made in the state).

More great finds:

This sculptural teapot, part of a collection of handmade stoneware manufactured on an olive orchard in northern California by artist Alex Marshall.

One-of-a-kind state license plate art created in California by artist Aaron Foster. Each piece is handmade from actual license plates and mounted on cedar.

Wine is Fine

You can never go wrong with a bottle of wine as a gift, and when it comes to the California-made variety, the choices are many.

Food and Wine has compiled a list of their top 75 California wines, with a hearty list of Under-$20s, classics, and insider’s favorites. You can take it a step further and treat your guest to dinner at the Santa Monica restaurant they say has “the best Cabernet list in California”—Italian restaurant Valentino.”

Or, take a cue from Frommers and plan a trip to one of the “10 Best California Wineries with a View,” like HALL Wines in the Napa Valley. After all, nothing says holidays in California like a getaway that celebrates the beauty, and bounty, of the state.
