Experienced runners will tell you that there comes a point while running a marathon that your momentum stops and you want to quit – a moment infamously known as “The Wall”. This year at the California International Marathon, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Sacramento/Lake Tahoe will be supporting and motivating runners to break through that obstacle at their second annual Party at the Wall. Strategically placed at mile 20 of the race at the corner of Fair Oaks Blvd and Morse (near the company’s Sierra Oaks office) friends, family and fans of runners will gather to enjoy food, music, fun and to cheer on runners as they race to cross the finish line.

In addition, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage has put together its own team of runners to participate in the CIM, including:

You might ask why they are running? Here’s some of the stories of Team CBRB:

Debbie Newton’s Story

I have run 3 California International Marathons… which I was doing for ME. This year, I am one of 40+ guides selected to pace 34 blind or vision impaired runners. I can’t wait to meet these runners from across the country, Jordan, Canada, and Dominican Republic. It’s going to be a huge inspiration for me!

Christine’s Vella’s Story

My story is similar to many of the other runners. 5 years ago I thought there was no way I could a 5k as I was not a runner. Our Manager was training for a Marathon himself and talked a group of folks from the office to go do the 5K at the event. I signed up and completed the 5K by walking and running the course.

Now I am on my way to completing my first marathon, CIM. I have been following my training plan and keep going distances that I have trouble comprehending. The light is growing brighter at the end of the marathon tunnel. I have been lucky to have some great supporters to keep me on track and to get my plans set. Without them this journey would have been much tougher and not as much fun.

My goals for 2014 are a bit different. Will be participating in the Vineman Half Ironman in July and my goal for 2015 is to complete a full Ironman Triathlon for my 50th birthday.

Mary Grebitus’s Story

As most of us do, I created a bucket list of things I wanted to accomplish in my lifetime. One of the ‘to-do’s” to scratch off was to run a marathon. In 2005 my best friend Lynda and I signed up with Team in Training to run the San Diego Rock ‘n Roll marathon. We ran in honor of her late husband who died at age 35 of brain cancer. That race was a memorable feat on multiple levels.

In 2007 my youngest brother Glen’s high-tech job and over-time hours were taking a huge toll on his health. He was stressed out, 70 pounds over-weight and depressed. I suggested he start running. We devised a workout plan that we both followed and kept each other accountable via email. Within a few months, he lost 20 pounds and was high on life. I suggested he sign up with me and run the CIM, he jumped on board with not a lick of hesitation. Glen finished his first marathon in a little over four hours and has run four marathons since. He continues to stay active and fit to this day.

When I run, I feel most connected to the inner me, the true me. My mind fills with thoughts I don’t know I would give myself time to think about if I didn’t take the time to run. I work things out that are bothering me. I discover things that I didn’t even know were bothering me. I pray for my children. I think about what I am grateful for. I dream and create visions for my future. I feel most alive, connected and present on my runs. Running keeps it real!
