We can all breathe a sign of design relief: Our love of jewel tones is safe for another glorious year.

Pantone, the preeminent arbiter of color trends, has anointed radiant orchid as its 2014 color of the year. In keeping with the bold color choices of the past few years (emerald green 2013, tangerine tango in 2012), radiant orchid is “vibrant, captivating – and suddenly everywhere,” said Pantone. “Radiant orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination. It inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health.”

Purple is rich and lush, and has an incredibly regal quality.”

Hang it up
