Punxsutawney Phil may have forecasted six more weeks of winter for the East, but here on the West Coast, we’re feeling the first pings of spring. The days are longer, the temps are hotter and we’ve already packed away our chunky knits to make room for a new warm weather wardrobe. This season’s fashion trends are all about being breezy and easy—think flirty florals, picnic-worthy gingham and boho fringe—but we see no reason why we can’t extend a little of spring’s blissful blooms and casual cool from our closet to our house decor. Here are some of our ideas for lightening, brightening and sprucing up our living spaces for spring!
1. Grown-Up Gingham
Gingham has been declared THE print of spring 2015—but careful—it’s not your mama’s gingham. If used sparingly and mixed with modern and industrial pieces at home, the pattern suddenly feels grown-up. Like in this sophisticated children’s room taken from the pages of Restoration Hardware.
2. Flirty Florals
Plant some petal power in your living room this spring with flirty floral pieces that sing. We like these cheerful exotic flora curtains from Anthropologie or for a more subtle look, these poppy taper candlesticks from shopterrain.com.
3. White on White
White on white on white. It’s the year of layering all shades of bright—so why not give your couch a springtime twist by mixing your pillows in different white variations or textures? West Elm has lots of different options, from this candlewick circle pillow to this mirrored dot lumbar number. Or go whiter with this monochromatic side chair from CB2.
4. Fabulous Fringe
One of the biggest hits from the spring 2015 runways was fringe, whether it was slinky metallic flapper styles or boho-chic tangerine leather. You can bring the swish and swoosh of fringe into your wallcoverings, like this macrame wall/window treatment from Urban Outfitters. If that reads too retro, go softer with this delightfully understated fringe pillow from Nate Berkus for Target.
5. Daring Denim
From shredded to dark-wash and even patched, the spring 2015 runways revealed denim fit for every mood and day…so why not bring the durable fabric into your home office? Swedish manufacturer Swedese has the perfect answer: they recently reissued their classic 1952 ‘Lamino’ chair in chic dark denim, in collaboration with Nudie Jeans.
6. Yummy Yellow
Another big fashion trend this spring is the color yellow. From amber and canary to saffron and marigold to butter and honey, there’s sure to be a tone that’s just right for you. Try incorporating yellow textiles like these pillows from Caitlin Wilson Textiles or this knitted yellow pouff from CB2. For something more daring, wallpaper (yes, we said wallpaper) a wall with a modern pattern, like this one found on Houzz.
