Each summer, Surf City USA hosts the US Open of Surfing, the world’s largest surf competition and lifestyle festival. Held July 25-August 2 at the Huntington Beach Pier, the annual Vans US Open attracts over half a million people. In addition to surfing, the nine-day festival includes skateboarding and BMX competitions, live music, movie premiers, fashion shows, and product demos from on-site industry sponsors, transforming the beach into one of pro surfing’s greatest stages. As many surf aficionados know the best waves often come before the crack of dawn, so plan on some early mornings sessions. All events are free and open to the public.
With 185 miles of legendary coastline, Southern California is known as the capital of US surfing. From the long rides of Rincon to the barrels of Black’s Beach, Southern California is home to some of the most notable surf spots. We began to wonder where these avid SoCal wave seekers hang their board shorts when they aren’t out hanging ten.
In honor of the Vans US Open, we’ve put together a roundup of surf-ready pads waxed and primed for any Big Kahuna’s endless summer.
