Wine, cars and Carmel — it’s one of those winning combinations that satisfies virtually all of life’s greatest passions. On August 17, all three will be celebrated in full force at the fourth annual Carmel Mission Classic Car Show and Blessing of the Automobiles. Or, as Frank DiPaola, event chairman, put it: “Carmel Mission feeds the spirit, fine cars feed the passion, fine wine and gourmet food feed the body.”

Proceeds from the charitable event benefit the Knights of Columbus and Carmel Mission. Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Carmel is the only real estate sponsor. The office’s sponsorship was originally spearheaded by Coldwell Banker real estate agent, William Smith, who has been a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus.

“It’s a fun outdoor event with car enthusiasts,” says Todd Porteous, manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Carmel.  “We are thrilled to lend our support for the third year in a row. It’s a great way for our agents to give back to our local community, and meet people who come here from all over the world. We look forward to it all year.”

Putting the “car” in Carmel, the classic will display about 75 of the finest automobiles, including Fred Astaire’s 1927 Phantom Rolls Royce (on loan from the Petersen Automative Museum) at the world’s most famous Mission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. Barry Meguiar, host of  the “Car Crazy” TV Show, will serve as celebrity guest and Master of Ceremonies. For a $50 entrance fee, attendees will be given a complimentary wine glass for a wine tasting from some of Monterey County’s finest vineyards while they stroll the grounds of “the crown jewel of the Monterey Peninsula,” the Historic Carmel Mission and museums with live harp music in the background. Guests will also enjoy a no-host gourmet food bar from a local chef. Automobile art by noted illustrator Ed Greco will be for sale, and auctioned off during the event.

The Carmel Mission Classic Car Show and Blessing of the Automobiles is one of many special moments happening this week as part of Monterey Car Week and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
