A few weeks ago, we published a whole piece about the great room concept and how it’s still the preferred way people want to live. An open kitchen-living room-dining-room space promotes togetherness because everyone can be in one, big, happy open space. That’s exactly the kind of feeling you want to cultivate at Thanksgiving, no?

This light-filled kitchen in Sausalito is the latest source of our kitchen envy and inspires all sorts of holiday hosting dreams. The sleek and modern indoor/outdoor space, which opens to gorgeous views of Sausalito Bay, Belvedere and Tiburon, is “California” all the way.

The kitchen itself has two large islands — one for food prep and one for a sit-up bar (where the kids can eat their pumpkin pie). There’s also two sinks and a gourmet range for cooking turkey and all the fixin’s. Warm woods and white countertops blend in harmony.

Adjacent is the dining room, where the adults can enjoy their feast. When everyone has had their fill, they can retreat into the living room to watch football, enjoy the warmth from the fireplace and savor the fresh air breezing in from the dramatic La Cantina glass folding door/wall system opening from the deck.

In this 4,300-square-foot contemporary, there are plenty of places to gather, making Thanksgiving just one holiday out of many throughout the year worth enjoying.
