Whether you are a certified beach baby or long to sink your toes in the sand this summer but can’t get away, it’s easy to bring the beach to your home. Consider these five easy design tips to add some coastal chic:
Tap Mother Nature

Summertime is great for bringing coastal inspiration into your home décor. Starfish, shells, corals, driftwood and just about anything else Mother Nature washes ashore can provide you with the decorations you need to festoon your house with a beachy theme. Consider purchasing manmade replicas of starfish and shells for a more wildlife-friendly option.
In 1855, Great Britain established the International Code of Signals, using flags as a way for ships to communicate. Add a nautical flare to your décor by displaying these nautical flags on walls, draping them across furniture and displaying them just about anyplace else you want to bring the sea to you.
Or Even More Nautical
Love life on the sea? Look in antique stores and on eBay for nautical lanterns, propellers and other maritime mainstays. Then frame nautical maps, charts and blueprints to add to the coastal ambience.

Incorporate surfboards throughout your home by converting one into a table, a headboard, countertop or use it for shelving. Prop one up against the wall, and entertain family and friends with a private viewing of Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon in “Beach Blanket Bingo.”

Still not beachy enough for you? Create a fun focal point in your backyard with a painted driftwood directional sign. Decorate your privacy fence by hanging buoys and ringed life preservers. Hang a hammock between two trees, sprinkle some white beach sand underneath it, and pretend you are lazing away on Gilligan’s Island.
Let your love of the beach and your imagination guide you in transforming your house into a secluded island retreat. Then put on your flip-flops, don your shades, pour yourself a cold ice tea, and imagine the sounds of waves and shorebirds washing over you!
